The size of your amp determines the size of your power wiring from your battery usually specified by your power amp manufacturer. You can run a 14 - 16 gauge wire from your head unit's which usually has a remote wire blue that controls when your amp turns on and off. In my GMC Sierra, I ran the remote and power wires on the driver's side floor rail via the left kick panel and the speaker wiring on the passenger's side kick panel and floor rail.
I added a 12 vdc relay so I could switch between the 4x6 and 6x9's for the rear sound. In addition, some amplifier units have a wired remote knob that you can place somewhere on your dash. I ran this wire on the driver's side; you can boost or cut the volume of your sub-woofer this way. Of course, I ran all wiring in wire looms.
